On Dublin Street by Samantha Young

For Adult 18+ Readers

                                               Cover art by Phatpuppy Art

Four years ago, Jocelyn Butler left her tragic past behind in the States and started over in Edinburgh. Burying the grief, ignoring her demons, and forging ahead without any real attachments has worked well for her so far but when Joss moves into a fantastic apartment on Dublin Street, her carefully guarded world is shaken to its core by her new roommate’s sexy older brother.

Braden Carmichael is a man who always gets what he wants. And what he wants is Jocelyn in his bed. Knowing how skittish Joss is concerning any kind of relationship, Braden proposes a sexual arrangement that should satisfy the intense attraction between them without it developing into anything ‘more’. An intrigued Jocelyn agrees, completely unprepared for the Scotsman and his single-minded determination to strip the stubborn young woman bare…to the very soul.

A little info about the author...
Samantha Young

Sam is a 26 year old Scottish book addict and she graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2009. She studied ancient and medieval history at uni, and it was in her first year there, in the middle of a classical literature lecture, that she first came up with the idea for The Tale of Lunarmorte. She's been writing since as long as she can remember, and she has a particular interest in the paranormal, fantasy and dystopian genres.
She loves pulling pieces of historical fact (or mythology) and twisting it to fit her stories, and she is more than thankful that her degree is being put to good use in her writing.
She began self-publishing in 2011 and now writes full time.  When she's not writing, she's usually thinking about writing or thinking about thinking about writing.

On to our reviews:

Shelley's Review:
Well it's been a few hours since I "turned" the last page, and still I'm breathless and mesmerized...somewhat in a daze. I was so eager to get my hands on On Dublin Street. When I got a hold of an ARC, I was giddy. I'm such a big fan of Samantha Young and all she touches, I knew this book was going to be great. Here she proves she is truly a raconteur.
Knowing her style and how hot and spicy she can make her YA novels without crossing that invisible "it's too risque" line, I was anxious to see just how far she would take her first Adult book. I knew the characters would be insanely attractive, yet believable, smart, engaging and fun. Her protagonist is always a wonderful blend of sweet and snarky, perfectly imperfect and so easy to relate to.
Let me just say that Sam has surpassed all my expectations. In fact, I'm pretty much in awe. What's she accomplished here...well, I can honestly say she has knocked every other book I've read this year down a few notches and made On Dublin Street, my absolute favorite story of the YEAR. HANDS DOWN! There is simply NO WAY anyone could improve upon this love story.
Reading Jocelyn and Braden's story reminded me of all the things I love about being in a relationship. And all the hard work it really takes to make even the most ideal partners stay together. S**t happens.
Samantha created a modern world any one of us could easily fall into. And fall I did. I immediately fell for Braden within the first scene. How could you not? There's just something incredibly hot about a handsome, self assured and slightly, but not overly aggressive man. Add in humor...the total package. I absolutely LOVE this man. But who I really fell for? Jocelyn, or Joss, as she prefers. Why? Because she is by far the most relatable character I have ever read. She is driven and stunted by her fears all at once. She fights her very nature to keep people at a distance to protect herself and though she's very aware of what she's doing and wishes she could have more, she finds she is her own worst enemy. Again and again and again. She reminded me so much of myself, it was a little scary. I felt at times, that Sam had reached deep into my soul and pulled my biggest fears to the surface for the whole world to see. As well as my hopes and dreams...and fantasies. All amid the beautiful backdrop of her wonderful homeland and amongst some of the most well rounded and  entertaining characters you'll ever find. The day to day conversation (banter, really), between them all make for many great quotes. And a few chuckles. But as you've probably guessed, Jocelyn and Braden story is not all peaches and cream. They are not perfect people. They don't live in a perfect world. This story is very much about their struggles including their undeniable attraction to one another. Granted the fighting of that attraction is more a struggle that Jocelyn creates for herself.
I won't go in to any more details of this amazing tale, but I will tell you, if you've ever struggled with your past, have suffered from loss or a series of poor choices and find yourself not moving forward, unloved and  unfulfilled...do yourself a favor...indulge yourself with this delicious and decadent roller coaster of love, lust and human nature. It will do your heart good. If you just want to read the next sure to be a bestseller-super sexy Adult novel, search no more. It's right here.
On Dublin Street is off the charts. If I had to rate this sweet little number, I'd rate it 10 flames. This one makes it's own bonfire- Babe. x

Kathryn's Review:
I am going to start this review by saying that Sam never ceases to amaze me with the brilliant talent she has for writing!  I have LOVED everything that she is written and her new adult book On Dublin Street does not disappoint...
When she first introduced us to this book, she began with the first chapter teaser that blew me away and made me ache for the rest right then... Of course, couldn't get it then, but nonetheless, little teasers kept coming... By the 6th teaser.. I was DYING...
So, luckily, Sam sends my blog partner Shelley and I ARCs...(YAY!!!)
And I began reading right then...
This story is so different, yet so similar to Sam's other books.  And what I mean by that is that Sam doesn't tread lightly with what she writes.  She gives you the hard topics, the gut wrenching events, the passionate sparks of love and binds this all together to give you a tale that will totally encompass your well being.  It touches you deep in your soul and marks a spot that will clearly be permanently attached to you from here on.
On Dublin Street has done that to me.  While this is adult and Sam has amped up the hot and steamy aspects, she has also kept those major elements that rock your world!
Upon meeting Jocelyn, or Joss as she would tell you, you find yourself with a girl that is guarded, closed off, snarky, smart, and loaded with baggage.  Her life is at turning point and she needs to find a new place when we meet the handsome, overprotective, caring, somewhat controlling, smart businessman Braden... Of course the sparks fly when these two meet... But, nothing is ever easy and the journey we take with Joss throughout On Dublin Street is everything you want out of a book...
No details/spoilers from me about what is going to happen... But, with an intriguing, heartfelt, gut wrenching storyline that will grab hold of your heart, squeeze it tight, causing you to gasp for air, On Dublin Street will tug at those heart strings til you are holding on by a single thread...
Powerful and emotional, sexy and alluring, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat... A definite must read... One you won't be able to put down!!
