The Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa

Don’t look at Them. Never let Them know you can see Them.

That is Ethan Chase’s unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs—including his reputation—begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he’d dare to fall for.

Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister’s world—the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myth and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.

Born in Sacramento, CA, Julie Kagawa moved to Hawaii at the age of nine. There she learned many things: how to bodyboard, that teachers scream when you put centipedes in their desks and that writing stories in math class is a fantastic way to kill time. Her teachers were glad to see her graduate. Julie now lives in Louisville, KY, with her husband and a plethora of pets. She still laughs whenever she sees a centipede.

Oh, Ethan Chase. We all loved him as Meghan's ever so sweet and loving little brother with the Sight. Well, he's not so little- or sweet anymore. But he sure is awesome! He's all grown up, still haunted by the fae, and missing his sister terribly. But he's also cynical and always in trouble. He blames Meghan for his pathetic and tortured existence, for deserting their family to be with her Knight. And despite his best efforts to avoid the fair folk, he finds himself- once again, in the middle of a Faeryland nightmare. With uncanny precision and her trademark wit, Julie slowly unveils to Ethan- and the reader, what's been hidden from him all these long years without his sister by his side. But what he discovers about his family is the least of his worries. A force he's never seen or heard of before has arrived in town. And let me tell you-it's creepy! When he tries to help a half-breed friend, Ethan is all at once running from and in pursuit of this unknown threat. Ethan, being smart and strong- and pretty wicked with knives- isn't about to stand down against this new foe. Not by a long shot. And he's certainly not going it alone. Believing he's short on allies, and knowing you can never truly trust a faery, he's forced to make fast alliances and hope they all survive. This tale is nothing short of brilliant! From Louisiana to the Wyldwood and all places in between, Ethan's first real tale is chock full of action, surprises, a bit of fae fun and a sweet spark of romance. The perfect addition to The Iron Fey saga, The Lost Prince weaves past, present and future seamlessly. Bringing back some old favorites, introducing some new heroes as well as delightful- and disturbing side characters, Julie takes us on a frightening adventure with Ethan- The Lost Prince. TLP promises to make this spinoff series every bit as thrilling and enchanting as The Iron Fey. I was captivated the whole way through. I loved the action, the characters, their interactions and most of all I loved the surprises. Iron Fae fans will not be disappointed. And I can't wait to see what happens next.
Yep, Ethan's a big boy now...better, badder... and ready to knock your socks off while he kicks some serious fae ass. BRING IT!

ARC from Netgalley
I first want to say that I love the Iron Fey...When I began with the first book, The Iron King, many moons ago, it has been one that I have followed religiously!!  With that said, I have been on pins and needles knowing that my love for Meghan and Ash would be coming to an end and now introduced or should I say re-introduced to none other that Meghan's brother Ethan Chase.
The Lost Prince started out very different for me and I was starting to get a little nervous because where I was so used to the world in which we followed Meghan in, Ethan's was so much harsher, filled with anger and hostility.  But, as time went on and I found my foothold in to Ethan's character, I was then completely wrapped up again in the world of Fey that Julie had won me over with before.
As always, we are whisked away in to the mystical world of the fey and from Ethan's POV, this is not a good thing.  Trying his hardest to stay away from Them is pretty much his number one goal day in and day out.  With a troubled past, we start this new tale with Ethan starting a new school.  With hopes to stay under the radar, he tries his hardest to be the bad boy, the one that everyone should run away from the minute he walks in the room. Only thing is, fundamentally, Ethan isn't a bad guy.  No matter how hard he tries, he goes against that image and helps out a half-breed getting beat up on...AND this is where the story finally takes a turn in to the action packed suspense known as the world of the Iron Fey...
In this tale, Ethan meets a wonderful, charming young classmate named Kenzie.  She completely sees through him and calls him on all his "broody" antics.  Not to mention, but Kenzie also found a way to crawl in to Ethan's heart.
With a new threat on the horizon, we are back in the NeverNever where we head to the Iron Kingdom.  I enjoyed the brief encounter with our beloved Iron Queen and Iron Knight...but the interesting one is the new character named Kierran.  Who is he, you say??  I will let you read the book to find out, but let me say this...he is a dynamic character in which I can't wait to find out more about him.
So, overall...The Lost Prince captured me and left me wanting soooo much more.  With a suspenseful, action-packed, storyline that grabs you from the moment you read the first line and holds you tightly til the very end....filled with new romances, whimsical and dark creatures, and a lore that has you believing in faeries all the while...The Lost Prince is a MUST READ for your 2012 reading list!!
