BLOG TOUR: Elfin by Quinn Loftis

Photobucket

Before tonight Cassie Tate’s biggest concerns were whether she could pass Algebra and how she was going to keep Elora, her best friend, from dressing her in a skimpy fairy costume for Halloween. Her feet were firmly planted in suburban reality and she had no reason to believe her life would be anything but that of a typical teenager. That is until tonight, when Cassie saw something that no human was ever supposed to see; in the blink of an eye she was thrown into the world of the Light and Dark Elves.

He comes from a realm where light and dark have fought for millennia. He is of a race known to humans only in myths and legends. The darkness that lives inside him is a part of both who and what he is and it makes him the most gifted spy and assassin in the history of his time. His life is not his own; he lives in the service of the Dark Elf King. He slays who he must, has mercy on no one, is relentless in his hunt, and never tires of seeing his prey fall. He is Triktapic, assassin, spy, most feared of the Dark Elves.

Now, in the midst of his King’s complicated plans to expand the Dark Elves’ holdings into the mortal realm, for the first time, Trik finds his loyalties divided. For no Elf, Dark or Light, can turn away from their Chosen.

Unbeknownst to the mortal realm, the battle between Light and Dark is being brought to their doorstep. The only one who can keep it at bay holds darkness in his heart like a lover, and the one who can sway that heart must decide if she can look beyond his black past, beyond his evil nature and see the man he is destined to be.

The question must be asked, does love really cover a multitude of sins? Can true love actually conquer all or will his darkness consume those around him until all that stands is an assassin with the blood of the mortal realm on his hands?

ARC review

OMG!!!! Totally and utterly freakin blown away!!!!
I just can't put it all in words yet... But FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC.....

Ok, I have had time to process everything and I have to say first that Elfin is a book that I didn't want to put down for one single minute.
Although I was forced to, I was constantly thinking about it...the fabulous characters, the mystical world of the elves, the intriguing and mesmerizing story that draws you in from the very beginning and holds you captive til the very end...
Quinn Loftis is such a brilliant talented writer and her Grey Wolves series has captivated me already and so when she announced a new series around elves, I was ecstatic!! I knew she was going knock this one of the ballpark and boy did she ever with Elfin!!
Meeting Cassie, a human girl, that is pure of heart, compassionate, considerate, and just an overall good girl leads us in to the ensuing battles within the elves world of light and dark. And who better to need such a bright star in their life than none other than the dark elf Triktapic...aka Trik. Their first meeting was hot and magical. And after that, OMG...all I wanted was more of these two together.
But, with the darkness trying to take over, we are caught up in a whirlwind of secrets and struggles that is gut-wrenching, nail-biting, sitting on the edge of your seat events that ultimately leads you to that moment of tears..Yes, I cried a little...I just couldn't believe it was going to go this way....BUT...my ray of sunshine came through the dark clouds and a perfect ending appeared...AND...it left me wanting soooo much more...THANK GOODNESS that there is going to be a book 2...I cannot wait to get more of this couple and exciting characters introduced to us in Elfin.
A work of genius by Quinn Loftis...A magnificent storyline, an exotic, beautiful world, and the enchanting, alluring characters are wrapped together in this outstanding enjoyable tale....
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Elfin is my introduction to Quinn Loftis' storytelling. Kathryn has been a fan for quite some time. And though I own each of her Grey Wolves books, they've managed to get buried further and further on the kindle as we've gotten more involved in this blogging world. Now with five installments, they still wait patiently on my never-ending, ever-growing TBR pile.
Well, when I found out Quinn was releasing a brand new series I was not about to let that happen again. I'd had enough of hearing how amazing Quinn's writing was. I was ready to witness it firsthand. We have a friendly banter- she's so personable, and as we've supported her, she has supported us. So it's only right that I go all in, from the ground floor and give her the attention she deserves.
So here goes... Elfin was a fast-paced, thrilling adventure, to put it simply. But the world of the Elves is anything but simple.
Our heroine, Cassie quickly finds herself in over her head in a world she didn't know exists- silly girl.
Myself, being a big fan of all things fae, this story was right up my alley and I dived right in.
It took me a bit to connect with Cassie, but she was a sweet, naive girl with a good family, a snarky but loveable best friend and the whole world ahead of her.
Through a chance and scary encounter she meets Trik, a gorgeous and mysterious Elf, who kindly informs her she is no longer safe. Cassie can't believe what she's seen and heard and attempts to go on about her average teenage life. Once again- silly girl.
I don't want to get into the guts of the story so I'll just continue by telling you what I loved.
First off-- TRIK aka Triktapic. He was everything you could hope for in tall, dark, sexy stranger. He is indeed dark, but he's also passionate and driven. Used to taking orders, but always going about things his own way. He knows what he wants and he takes it. And he wants Cassie- No. Matter. What.
I loved the depth of conviction in this twisted tale. Many things are not as they seem, and Cassie and Trik find they must follow what their hearts and souls are telling them. Sounds simple right? Not when elves are involved.
There is trickery and treachery, surprises and deceit around every corner. Just keeping Cassie alive is a tall order, but Trik will go to any length to protect her.
The romance is old fashioned and sweet and . Though their love is riddled with confusion and deception, their souls call out to each other. One cannot live without the other. And neither want to.
The Elfin world divided into Light and Dark. The Light, lead by a strong yet compassionate and kind King. The Dark, under the rule of an evil, menacing, and greedy King, hellbent on destroying the human world and controlling everyone.
It's a scary, complicated world for a small, seemingly insignificant human girl. And time is running out for them all.
So the question is... will Fate be in their favor? Will their love for each other create a stronger division among the Light and Dark Elves? Can Cassie overlook Trik's violent past? Can Trik overcome that past and be who he is truly meant to be? What will become of the Elfin world? Ok, that's several questions, but they're all relevant and they drive the storyline.
I believe I've broken my rule and rambled on about the story itself after all. What can I say? It's an epic tale of true love, a battle between good and evil, and the blending of two very different worlds, with many twists and turns, and shocking surprises to keep you on your toes and on the edge of your seat, while biting your nails to the quick.  And I loved it.
But wait??? This is a series, right? So do we already get our HEA? Could it be that easily wrapped up? Of course not.
Just when we think we might see the light of day, Quinn leaves us dangling...
Oh yes. We must wait to see if our lovers can indeed save themselves and the world. So I'll impatiently wait to see what the second book brings. I look forward to seeing how Quinn develops some of her fantastic side characters, and how she plans to bring all to a head. Will it get darker, are there more secrets to be uncovered? Will love conquer all?
I will say, though there are dark elements to Elfin, it is not as dark as so many faerie tales are. There is a lightness in the dialogue, mainly supplied by Cassie's bff Elora. She lends a carefree air to nearly every situation, and had me laughing out loud.
So don't expect this to be like a Wicked Lovely or Fever tale. Elfin is though, just as exciting and enchanting. And a great start to what I believe will be a wonderful, charming series.
