BLOG TOUR: Jaded & Faded by Mercy Amare

JADED
 I'm Scarlett Ryan.

Yes, THAT Scarlett Ryan.
I live an extraordinary life: millionaire rock star, owner of exotic cars, pictures of me in every magazine, millions of fans, and a name that is recognized world wide. It's supposed to be my dream come true. But, my life IS a fantasy, and I want real. I want exciting. I want... NORMAL. So, I moved from California to Florida, hoping to obtain some normalcy. Instead I find...
Stephan Montgomery.
He's an arrogant jerk. Seriously, I hate him. I swear if he tells me one more blonde joke, I will punch him... again... Unfortunately  I can't stop thinking about him, or his gorgeous green eyes. Trust me, I know that he's bad for me. If only my heart would listen.
I also find out that my parents have kept a LIFE CHANGING secret from me. I need to know the truth.
The harder I strive for normal, the stranger things seem to get.

I am very aware of Stephan's presence in study hall today. In fact, he hasn't stopped playing with my hair since class began. I turn around and swat his hands away.

“Stop that,” I whisper. “You're distracting me.”

“You like it,” he counters.

I narrow my eyes at him. “I know exactly what you're doing, Stephan Montgomery. And it's not going to work on me.”

“What is it you think I'm trying to do?” He questions with his eyebrows raised.

“You're trying to seduce me. And trust me when I say, I'm not an inexperienced high school girl. It's going to take a lot more than sweet words, kissing, and touching to break me.”

He smiles.

“And considering how much grief it took to get you to kiss me, I'm surprised you want more.”

He leans forward in his desk. “Trust me, Scarlett, you're a lot more than just a hook up to me. I want so much more.”

I want to smile at his words, but I don't want to give him the satisfaction of knowing he's got to me.

“What is it that you want?” I ask.

“I want you to be mine, and only mine.” He's very to the point, and that is what I like about Stephan. I never have to wonder what he is thinking.

I am unable to hide my smile now. “Why, Stephan, if I didn't know better, I'd say you just asked me to be your girlfriend.”

He shakes his head. “No. I'm not asking you to be my girlfriend in study hall. I will, soon, but when I do, it's going to be special.”

“I look forward to it.”

I turn back around in my chair, and try to focus on my homework in front of me.

FADED

I left Hope – the only place I’ve ever felt at home. So now what? Where do I go from here?
When I left, I didn’t just leave my home. I left my friends, my sisters, and Stephan… I just found them. I can’t lose them now.
I know that I want to do MY music. I need to remember WHY I wanted to play music in the first place. And the only way to get that is by firing my dad, but that may be harder than I thought.
On top of everything, I now have cameras following me around everywhere. Even my own home isn’t safe anymore.
I’ve come to realize that normal will never be an option for me.

Hey everyone! Shelley here again! Welcome to Tsk, Tsk, What to Read's stop on Mercy Amare's Rock Star Blog Tour!
I've been on a contemporary/ realistic fiction kick lately but I've mostly been reading the gut wrenching-heart-stomping-put you through the wringer types, and let me tell you, I love them. I do. But I needed to shift a bit from the hardcore emotional rollercoaster to something more fun, lighthearted- frivolous even. So when I saw there was a blog tour coming up for Mercy Amare's Rock Star series I jumped on.
What could be more fun than shadowing a world famous Popstar?
And these books were fun. And frivolous. Sometimes silly. There definitely some serious moments and situations, but overall, both Jaded and Faded were a lot like watching a documentary on E! Entertainment or MTV: Wild, crazy, exciting, FUNNY and outrageous... with a few tears.
For the most part it was a real kick riding along with Scarlett while she tries to find some "normal" in a business so caught up in fantasy. She wants nothing more than to play her own music, not what her label forces her play. She wants a real boyfriend. A real family. And she's willing to give up everything to get the life she so desperately seeks.
I liked Scarlett. She was smart, funny, strong willed and sassy. At times she came off as immature and unrealistic but that's part of her character, her status, and upbringing. You can forgive her for highschool mentality and naïveté. She hasn't had normal friendships, or any relationships for that matter. Her life isn't her own, and in that instance I felt her. Her family, if you could call them that, continually let her down and broke both of our hearts.
But can she have the life she dreams of? She's certainly going to do everything she can to get it. Right or wrong, misguided and confused, Scarlett is still a force of nature and I applauded her conviction and tenacity.
So about that boyfriend... well, I'm not telling you anything about... ;) If you haven't read either book, I just don't want to give anything away.
Scarlet goes through quite a lot. A lot of drama. A lot of soul searching. A lot of heartache. And a lot of joy. She finds out who her friends really are... after several misunderstandings and compromising circumstances. And she finds herself. Does she find true love, a family, and the career she's always dreamed of? Oh boy! I wish I could tell you. ;)
Faded ends on quite the little cliffhanger so to find out what Scarlet's really gotten herself into and what's next in her world of music we'll have to wait for book three. I'm eager to see how her current "situation" plays out. To see if this popstar can really change her life and have it all. Talk about living vicariously.
Jaded and Faded were both fast paced and easy to read. With just enough ups and downs to keep you guessing and enough hope to keep you rooting for that HEA. Perfect for the weekend or long Summer day.
I want to thank Mercy Amare for gifting me both of these little treats and having me on her tour. <3
