RELEASE DAY BLAST: The Edge of Darkness by Melissa Andrea

HAPPY RELEASE DAY TO MELISSA ANDREA!!!!

After a tragic accident, Araya Noelle is left with a constant reminder that nothing is forever.

Instead of dwelling over her loss, she plays the hand she's been dealt without complaint. In a world as black as hers, there's no room for bitterness, no time for regret. Sheltered from the outside world, Araya has become suffocated by a life she has no control over. Until Ryland Dare comes crashing into her life.

You don’t know true darkness until you've felt the light…
Like a firecracker, showering her with colorful sparks of freedom, Ryland quickly sweeps Araya away from her dark existence. For the first time since the accident, living in darkness is no longer something Araya wants to do willingly. Unleashed by the shadows of her reminder, being with Ryland, Araya touches light. Together they will learn what it’s like to be alive for the first time.

At the edge of darkness, a ray of light, will dare them both to live.

I brushed my lips across her neck again and watched as the world around us, spun. Her fingers twisted in my shirt and she pulled my  body closer. “I didn’t expect you Araya.”  I rasped against her ear and my fingers tangled in her hair, bringing her lips up to mine. Her breath was warm and sweet against my lips and I wanted to taste her so bad it hurt.

Melissa started reading in high school when she found her mom's romance book collection and has been hooked on books every since. She became a complete book-a-holic, starting her own collection and improving her reading skills. Most of the time she could finish a book walking around the store, while her mom shopped.

She wrote her first short story in high school for a competition in her writing class. It was a child's book called 'Arnold' - it was about an ant who believed he could do anything. Oh by the way, she won!

She has written many stories since then, but this will be her first YA paranormal/fantasy and the first book she will have published.

She lived in Mesa, Arizona with her husband of six years, and her 3 beautiful daughters. They are her biggest fans and they inspire her everyday. She enjoys spending time with her family, weekend dates with her mom & taking vacations. Hawaii anyone??

RELEASE DAY BLITZ: Call Me Crazy by Quinn Loftis

“I’m looking out from inside the chaos. It must be a one-way mirror because no one seems to be able to see back inside to where I am. The looks on their faces, the judgment in their eyes, tells me everything I need to know. The most frustrating part about the whole messed up situation is that even though I’m the one that they stare at in shock, I am just as shocked as they are. I know no more than they do of why I lose control. What they don’t know is that I am more scared of myself than they could ever be.” ~ Tally Baker

After a devastating turn of events, seventeen year old Tally Baker is admitted to Mercy Psychiatric Facility where she is diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. She has come to a place where she honestly believes that her life is over. Her mind tells her that she will never smile or laugh again, that she will never be normal again. It is in this unlikely place that she meets two people, different in every way, yet both critical to helping her realize that she has so much more living to do.
Candy, a cantankerous sixty year old Mercy Psychiatric patient, is hell bent on driving everyone as crazy as she is. Candy shows Tally that, regardless of her diagnosis, the ability to push on and live her life to the fullest is her choice and hers alone. In the midst of Tally’s oftentimes humorous, sometimes heart-wrenching,escapades with Candy, a new patient is admitted to Mercy—a Native American woman named Lolotea. Along with this new patient comes a daily visitor, her son, Trey Swift. At first glance, it is obvious to Tally that he is incredibly handsome and unbelievably caring. But what she learns through her second glance, and many thereafter, is that there is much more to Trey than he ever lets on. It is during these daily visits that Trey and Tally build a friendship far deeper than either of them truly realize. With Trey, Tally feels for the first time since being admitted that someone is looking at her as a person and not as a disease. Trey begins to make it clear that he wants more than friendship, but she knows that she can never give him more. How can she, when she won’t even give him the truth?  Tally doesn’t tell Trey that she is a patient at Mercy, and she doesn’t ever plan to.Her plans go up in flames when she finds out that Trey is a new student at her school, the school where her brokenness was found out in the floor of the girl’s bathroom in a pool of her own blood.

 Ra and Lyssa
Trying to calm myself, I think about the One. I change the view on the crystal veil and say to myself, “She is special. Of all my creations, she shall be the most magnificent creature.”
I see Lyssa make her grand entrance into the room, making sure I know she is there. “Well you obviously must be talking about me.”
Turning around to face her, I roll my eyes and ask with malice in my voice, “What are you talking about this time?”
“The most magnificent creature of them all of course,” she replies
“You know, for once I wish you would stop walking in on me and acting like you own the place.”
She looks at me, not giving an inch, glaring at me with an evil look in her eyes, and major attitude in her voice. “Oh right, what you are doing is sooooo important. Let me guess, you are watching your things yet again?” As I Watch the breeze blow the canopy curtains around, I see her start walking toward me, as seductively as one could walk. It is as her mood has changed with the flip of a dime. She is swaying her hips back and forth, batting her eyelashes, and running her hands from her stomach up the front of her chest, “You know, I could give you something important to do, and it would be a heck of a lot more fun than watching those things all day every day.”

Amy has been married for 16 years and shares two beautiful daughters with her husband. After being a stay at home mother for many years, she went back to school and graduated with her Associates Degree in Business Administration in 2009. When she is not working, she loves being able to travel whenever she can and has had the opportunity to visit several different countries with her family, and has even been able to live in some of them.
While it was never her dream to become a writer, she now loves every minute of her time spent in the writing world, as it gives her the opportunity to live in a world made out of imagination and sometimes dreams. She loves reading paranormal and fantasy books.

Later in the week we will have the cover reveal for third book in the Witch Song series. A prequel--- Witch Fall which tells Lilette's story... a thousand years before Bresenna is born. *more happy dancing* I'm also very excited for this one. I haven't had a peek yet, but I know from the temp covers it is going to be STUNNING. Watch for it!

For now, enjoy the interview, then go out and grab your copy of Winter Queen. Thanks for joining us and HAPPY READING! ~Shelley

Amber Argyle talks about her new book, Winter Queen
Winter Queen has gone up for sale early! I appreciate those of you who've left/will leave reviews!
1. Where did you come up with the setting for Winter Queen?

Amber: I wanted something with abrupt mountains and alpine meadows. A rocky, cold environment that made surviving a challenge, but which also provided protection from any marauding forces. Basically, a landscape that made characters as tough as it was.

I also wanted a place where winter was a dark and deadly presence, signaling the end of warmth and light. All this so my character would hate winter and see it as a sort of evil. When she's presented with the opportunity to save her people from a war they cannot win, she must turn to this dark force to save them.

I even searched out old maps and Pinterest for such places and found Triglav National Park in Slovenia (there are lots of hints of this throughout the novel, but they are buried pretty deeply). Check out my Winter Queen Pinterest board to see some of the images that inspired me.

2. Is it true parts of the book were inspired by the movie The Last of the Mohicans?

Amber: Yes. I watched the movie as a young teenager and found myself much more fascinated with Alice's story as opposed to Cora's. Alice was portrayed as the weaker of the two sisters, but in reality, she was simply untried--very young, and very innocent.

The moment when she stood at the edge of the cliff, looking down the long drop below, still haunts me. She had a choice to marry and bear children for her captor, or end her life.

She chose to die, and I wanted to shout at that there was another choice. She could be strong, endure until she had a chance to change her life. To live.

But she didn't. She dropped, silently and suddenly. And I wondered how differently that story would have been if Alice had chosen to live.

That's the story I wanted to explore in Winter Queen. A girl faced with a similar choice: death or marriage to the murderer of those she loves. But . . . . well, I don't want to spoil it for you. But it's pretty intense.

3. You also explore themes of what it means to be a man and a woman in the book. Can you tell us a little about that?

Amber: I'm not sure when I realized that boys would, for the most part, outgrow rules like "stranger danger", "the buddy system", etc. While I never would.

That to be a woman meant I was and always would be vulnerable. How much worse then for a woman raised in a time when all that stood between her and those who meant her harm were her kith and kin.

So what would happen if her kith and kin were presented with a choice to save her--the daughter and girl they loved--or themselves? It's a choice that is replayed over and over again throughout the world's history.

In ancient times, men were fighters and protectors. So what does it do to them when they fail? When they aren't strong enough to defend what's theirs, despite everything they could do. I explore this as well with my hero, Rone.

4. This sounds like a pretty intense book, with some difficult themes. What age to you recommend reads it?

Amber: If you're okay with the violence level in Hunger Games and the steaminess in Twilight, you'll be fine with Winter Queen.

BLOG TOUR: The Hazards of Skinny Dipping by Alyssa Rose Ivy

This isn't a deep book about first loves or self-discovery. If you want a book like that, I'd be happy to recommend one, but I don't have that kind of story to tell. Instead my story is about rash decisions and finding out that your dream guy is bad in bed. It's the story of when I finally went skinny dipping, and how my life was never the same again. Oh, and it's also the story of my freshman year of college and realizing Mr. Right might have been there all along.
Alyssa Rose Ivy is a New Adult and Young Adult author who loves to weave stories with romance and a southern setting. Although raised in the New York area, she fell in love with the South after moving to New Orleans for college. After years as a perpetual student, she turned back to her creative side and decided to write. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and two young children, and she can usually be found with a cup of coffee in her hand.

Top Five Swoon worthy Book Couples: Indie edition

I have tons of favorite swoon worthy couples, but for this post I decided to focus on couples from indie (or were formally indie) books. Here are a few of my favorites in no particular order.

Julie and Nick
The Unloved by Jennifer Snyder

Julie and Nick are a great example of a friends to more relationship. They love and protect each other as kids, spend time apart, and then find romantic love as teenagers. I love how protective Nick is, and how realistically the obstacles they face are portrayed.

 Julie and Matt
Flat- Out Love by Jessica Park

This was one of my first and favorite New Adult reads. I love everything about how this relationship built up— even if it was anything but clear cut. I fell in love with both characters, and I was so happy to see them together.

 Arizona and Kellan
Portal by Imogen Rose

Portal was the book that made me decide to go Indie, and Arizona and Kellan are a big part of the reason I love the book so much. I can't say too much without giving away the plot, but they give “friends to more” new meaning. It’s also a great example of a brother’s best friend romance. I can’t get enough of either of these types of romances.

 Riley and Ian
The Deepest Cut by J.A. Templeton

A girl and a ghost might not seem like the most likely choice for a top swoon worthy couple, but this is one of my favorite YA Paranormal romance reads. Although the series continues, it’s the end of book one that had my heart clenching. I fell in love with this couple and wanted them to find a way to be together despite everything separating them.

 Alaina and Gabe
The Secret World of Alaina Downs by Rebecca Rynecki

Any couple involving a sexy knight is going to get my attention, but what I love the most about this couple is their chemistry. They are from different worlds, and drive each other crazy at times, but they really sizzle.

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping is a quick read that leads us on the journey of Juliet and her cousin's bucket list that Juliet has to finish before heading off to college.
When you begin reading, you kind of have an idea that when it says hazards, something bad is going to come to this wild fun escapade of skinny dipping.  I mean, when you read the scene and Juliet's reactions from the beginning to the end, you know that it is going to have to go sour some time or another.  And truthfully, I was very happy that it did.  I never liked Dylan.  From the moment of meeting him, I knew something was just off about him.  Fortunately we have the guy that you can't wait for, somewhat rushing through the other parts so you can get to hear more form him...Yep, that is Reed.  In first meeting him, you knew he was THE GUY!! He was fun, sarcastic, humorous, thoughtful...yeah, you name it, it was him.
So, Juliet jumps in to her relationship with Dylan and finds a friend in Reed, allowing us to go along and see what her first year as a freshman in college is like.
From start to finish, we get to see how one girl, Juliet, takes on life and deals with it.  It is the things that we do everyday, the decisions that we make everyday that we witness here. Seeing Juliet overcome a dream guy and seeing him for who he really is.  Seeing the friend and knowing that he could be so much more.  It is taking in those life lessons and applying them.  I really liked Juliet.  She was spunky and carefree, yet showing her age when it came to some of her clouded judgements.  But, I feel that is what made the story.  It was real.  It was something people could relate to and feel that connection.
Alyssa Rose Ivy did a fabulous job with The Hazards of Skinny Dipping.  It is a sweet romantic read that warms your heart and puts a smile on your face.

BLOG TOUR: Cryptid Tales by Brina Courtney

Welcome to our stop on the Cryptid Tales blog tour! We want to thank Brina Courtney and Rockstar Book Tours for having us on this tour.
I (Shelley), was meant to have a review on this stop, unfortunately for various reasons I got very behind and ended up not being able to get to it. Never fear though, we still have the goods for ya; a blurb from the book, an introduction to Brina, where to BUY the book and of course.... a GIVEAWAY!!!
So read, read, read, ENTER and be sure to leave a comment for Brina and our lovely hosts. We hope you'll check out Cryptid Tales for yourself. Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!

You think seeing ghosts is weird? Tell me something I don't know.
My childhood best friend Jeremy happens to be a ghost.
My life is a puzzle, and the biggest piece missing has been my dad. Since his disappearance when I was six it's been tough, but Jeremy has been by my side through it all.
But now Jeremy has gone missing too and I feel like I'm never going to get all the answers I've been looking for.
Fate intervenes when Hugh, a real live college beefcake, starts taking an interest in me. He divulges that he also shares my little "gift" of seeing the dead and I know I'm finally getting closer to finding all the pieces.
However, the more the puzzle is completed, the more questions I have.
Senior year is hard enough as it is, but clearly I like a challenge.

Brina Courtney is a young adult author obsessed with chocolate, crime shows, and fantasy movies. She's spent the last few years as an elementary teacher and a high school cheering coach. She lives in a small town in Pennsylvania with her husband and two very loud, small dogs.
