INDIE-CREDIBLE AUTHORS: Heather Self

OH WOW!!! I cannot tell you how flippin excited I am about hosting the EVER FABULOUS, MOST AWESOME, AAAAAAMAZING author Heather Self.
How can I tell you just how great Heather is?  She is one of the most down to earth people I have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know.
I was introduced to Heather about a year ago through one of my favorite authors.  With a special project going on, we were able to talk and from there conversations grew.  I then found out she had written THE ONE and immediately went to Amazon and bought it. Opened it up on my kindle and flew through its fabulousness.  LOVED every single bit of it... (#TeamChase, #Justsayin)...
So, we talked more and more...and then the awesome opportunity of attending UTOPYA con came up and we were both going to be there!! I was beyond excited that we were going to be able to sit and talk in person....Definitely going to be one of the highlights of my year....AND BOY WAS IT...

But, I can't tell you all the fabulous things I want...This post would be so long...IT WOULD BE CRAZY!!!!
She is a brilliant, amazing, talented writer who has created a beautiful mystical world with my favorite mythical creature....dragons...
THE ONE is a book you need to experience....you fill be hooked in an instant....
But, don't let me just tell you....Read below (interview, a teaser excerpt, giveaway, etc) discover more...and find out for yourself just how fabulous Heather Self is....

Kat: Hi TSK TSKers... Boy am I happy to introduce you to one of my favorite people in the world....The awesome Heather Self is with us today and I had the privilege of asking her some questions so you guys might get to know her a little better....So to start off...Heather…tell us a little about yourself….
Heather: What do you want to know? My life is not particularly exciting. lol
Kat: Oh please...You are THE HEATHER SELF....lol
Where did you get your inspiration for writing The One?
Heather: Oh gosh. So I’ll have to confess my EPIC nerdiness for part of this. Evy was an answer to all the whiny, I can’t live without him, and where the heck are the freaking parents, heroines that I was seeing in YA at the time. The Kin came about because I played World of Warcraft and was always fascinated by the dragons in the game. They were BAD ASSES and I always wondered what their stories were. So…I made up my own :D
Kat: That is freakin AWESOME...and Evy is definitely not your typical YA heroine...So,
What is a typical day like for you?
Heather: Now that school is back, I’m up at 6:30am to get the kiddos fed and to the bus.  I’m off and on social media all day but spend my most time catching up on it in the mornings. Then I write or read, depending on what I’m feeling and if I have a beta read or Kathleen has sent me stuff to critique.
Kat: Yeah, now that school is back it seems the time flies by for me...But since you read during this time...tell us, Who are you favorite authors? Favorite books?
Heather: UGH! Too many on both counts. But here’s a quick overview:  http://www.slice.com/bookshelf/main#bookshelf/-1231814809560081073:-6704161438354381576
Kat: Ahhhh....I can understand that too!! I just keep adding to my lists too.. LOL!!! I see many authors today have playlists in their books....Do you have playlists with your books? And what is your Favorite type of music? Favorite songs?
Heather: I DO have playlists for the books, and I listen to A LOT of Maroon 5 while I write. I guess Indie is prob my favorite but my playlist is very eclectic (Broadway showtunes to Godsmack—seriously). Right now my fav song is Sara Bareilles Brave
Kat: LOL!!! Yeah, no point sticking to just one genre of music...Be free and enjoy it all...Ok, Back to writing...What do you find the most difficult in writing?
Heather: ALL OF IT! Getting the words down, not being hypercritical of my work, not comparing to others. UGH.
Kat: *Nods* Being hypercritical can really be tough... Do you have a character that you just hate to write? One that you just love to write?
Heather: Haven’t come across any I HATE to write—yet.  And I LOVE to write Kieran. He is one of the most gentle men, even after all the crap he’s been through. I just want to squeeze him!
Kat:  Awww... #TeamChase....I mean...I love Kieran too!!! :D sooo...Do you follow an outline or are you flexible with your characters as they talk to you?
Heather: Mostly flexible.  As far as The Portal Trilogy goes, there are certain things that have to happen to propel the story (I’ve actually already written the end) but I never know how I’m going to get there.
Kat: Ok...fun break....so, What do you do for fun?
Heather: :D READ! And Doctor Who. And The Voice. And TV & movies in general.
Kat: I love Doctor Who!!! I have watched it for a while myself...Started it with my dad long ago... :D Now... Somewhere you are dying to travel to…
Heather: I’ve been to Ireland twice and want to go back RIGHT NOW!
Kat: AHHHHH!!!!! I want to go to Ireland soooo bad... *Sighs* ok...back to business....What are you working on right now?
Heather: Book two of The Portal Trilogy titled the Key and a super secret project that will probably use a pen name
Kat: Oooohhh...I love super secret projects.... :D I'm guessing this question can tie in that with What goals do you have for 2014?
Heather: Finish The Portal Trilogy and “ssp”
Kat: Now...a little more just about you...What is your favorite holiday? Heather: CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!
Kat: Don't we all just looooove Christmas??? What is something you would LOVE to do but are too scared to do it?
Heather: Skydive (the hubs LOVED it) and be a voice for audio books
Kat: Skydive would be on that list for me too... and a voice for audio books?? That would be so cool!! Alright, now, What is your favorite food?  How often do you eat it?
Heather: Tex Mex! At least once a week ;)
Kat: Mmmmm.... Delicioso!!! Time to wrap things up...Any parting words of wisdom?
Heather: Stop calling yourself an “aspiring “ writer. If you write, you are!
Kat: Man, I just love her!! She is FREAKIN AWESOME!!!! So happy to have had her as my INDIE-CREDIBLE author because she is INCREDIBLE!!!!
Thank you soooo much Heather for taking the time out of your crazy schedule to answer my questions....
Now...On to some more fantastic stuff from Heather...

Stranded on Earth two thousand years they’ve waited for the arrival of the One: some to save her, others to kill her. With her birth, the ancient prophecy could at last be fulfilled and the doorway between the worlds would open. Those who know the prophecy believe this event occurred almost eighteen years ago, and now, they’ll stop at nothing to find her.Seventeen-year-old Eveline has lived her entire life on the move and she hates it. She knows her parents believe she’s the One, and they’ve done whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of those who want her dead. But Eveline isn’t fully convinced that her parents’ beliefs match her own. What she does believe is that Leadville, Colorado may be the chance she’s been waiting for. The chance to be somewhere safe. The chance for her to make friends and have fun. The chance to finally date a guy. The chance to be a normal girl, at least as normal as possible for someone not human.

Mary Anne Moore doesn't know what she is. She can’t explain why she has lived so long.

Or why she never gets sick.

Or why the dreams she has come true.

She has hidden herself as a lowly servant to the households of Dublin's English elite for decades, until the night that changes her life. Now her sole purpose is the child she never expected to have. She will do anything in her power to keep the black-eyed monsters from discovering him and turning him into one of them.

For Kieran Moore, the dark is an ever-present parasite, waiting to devour his humanity. His mother’s love and the girl in his dreams has kept it at bay for years, but the more time that passes—the longer he has to wait for her—the more it grows. When tragedy strikes, it is all he can do to keep from being consumed by the darkness that infects him. He must continue to hold on to the hope of peace her presence will bring him, because it’s not just his fate on the line, but that of the entire world.

And now...we have a SPECIAL...SPECIAL....excerpt for you...well truthfully....it is quite a TEASE for us since we are waiting patiently for THE KEY...book 2 in this AWESOME series....
So...here we go...
From CHASE....
Everything had changed.
For three hundred years my life had revolved around simple tenets: protect our people, protect the humans, eradicate the Nerada. Everything I’d done in my life, on this planet, had revolved around those perceived truths. Nothing deterred me from the path they’d set before me, not the birth of Liam or Jenna, not the revealing of Liam’s mark, not even the birth of the One.
But,then…
The things I believed to be black and white could no longer be confined to the simplicity of those colors. There were unexpected complications.
A missing key. A human keeper. A Nerada who wasn’t. A half-solved prophecy.
A girl.
And a kiss.
Complex developments that stirred in me fluctuating emotions that left me feeling surprisingly…

Human.

RELEASE DAY BLITZ: Tragically Flawed by A.M. Hargrove

Riviera Benson has a talent...one she discovered by accident. She’s a painter, but canvas isn’t her medium. She creates her lovely masterpieces on walls and ceilings of million dollar homes as murals and faux finishes. Her art is in high demand now, but life wasn’t always that way. Riviera has secrets from her past she intends to keep tightly locked away...terrifying secrets that keep her awake at night...that prevent her from getting close to anyone...anyone that is, until she meets Shan.
Benjamin Shandon, owner of Shandon Homes, works like a thousand demons are chasing him...because perhaps they are. His business has boomed, ever since the forest fire swept through the canyon and destroyed hundreds of million dollar homes. He demands excellence in everything...from his employees to his women. He slows down for nothing, keeping a schedule that no sane person would want. But Riviera interrupts everything, twisting his guts inside out, and wedging her way into his heart, destroying a promise he made to himself.
Will they let their pasts control their future, or will they decide to let go and allow their hearts to discover each other’s?

This book contains mature content and is not intended for younger readers.

One day, on her way home from work as a sales manager, A. M. Hargrove, realized her life was on fast forward and if she didn't do something soon, it would quickly be too late to write that work of fiction she had been dreaming of her whole life.  So, she rolled down the passenger window of her fabulous (not) company car and tossed out her leather briefcase.  Luckily, the pedestrian in the direct line of fire was a dodge ball pro and had über quick reflexes enabling him to avoid getting bashed in the head.  Feeling a tad guilty about the near miss, A. M. made a speedy turn down a deserted side street before tossing her crummy, outdated piece-of-you-know-what laptop out the window.  She breathed a liberating sigh of relief, picked up her cell phone, called her boss and quit her job.  Grinning, she made another call to her hubs and told him of her new adventure (after making sure his heart was beating properly again).
So began A. M. Hargrove's career as a YA/NA and Adult Romance writer. Her books include the following: Edge of Disaster, Shattered Edge and Kissing Fire (The Edge Series); The Guardians of Vesturon series (Survival, Resurrection, Determinant, reEmergent and Beginnings); Dark Waltz and Tragically Flawed.
Other than being in love with writing about being in love, she loves chocolate, ice cream and coffee and is positive they should be added as part of the USDA food groups.

BLOG TOUR: A Little Too Far by Lisa Desrochers

Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.

But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.

Lisa Desrochers lives in central California with her husband and two very busy daughters. There is never a time that she can be found without a book in her hand, and she adores stories that take her to new places, and then take her by surprise.

Look for her New Adult novel, A LITTLE TOO FAR , courtesy of HarperCollins Sept 2013, and the first companion, A LITTLE TOO MUCH , in Nov 2013. Also in stores is her YA PERSONAL DEMONS trilogy (Macmillan).

Hmmmm, this book had me all over the place.  You start feeling emotionally distraught for Lexie right from the beginning.  I mean, after a three year relationship with her boyfriend, she finds out he has been cheating on her.  She's devastated, and of course she should be, but you are drawn in and this is how we start this tale.
Now, this is where I think I know exactly where this story is going to go.  Lexie is an art student in college and she jumps at the chance to study abroad in Rome to get away from everything she has been dealt.  An yep...me...I am thinking...YES...going to meet a hot Italian guy and he is going to sweep her off her feet...
Well, *shakes head* might as well just slap me silly because that thought was completely blown out of the water when she finds THAT GUY before she ever leaves for Rome...Yep...he is THE ONE...
BUT....BUT....here is the twisted part to this story....he turns out to be her step-brother.  Now, this does not bother me in the least.  I mean, they aren't blood relatives and I can see this happening easily.  They are very close too each other, forming a connection through the years that just keeps getting stronger and stronger.  So, in a low moment and Trent, her step-brother, consoling her, EVERYTHING comes out and the emotions fly!!
Now that Lexie is leaving for Rome, upon discovering the epicness of her relationship with Trent, she struggles with whether this is right or wrong.  This indecision leads to turmoil and Lexie mentally chastises herself for being with Trent.  She decides that it is wrong and shouldn't be together.
NOW, this is where it gets a little odd...We now meet a soon to be priest, Alessandro, that shows Lexie compassion, and caring for her through all her needs.  It also helps that he is totally HOT...which now leads to the struggles that Lexie will go through.
So, now the story gets pretty hard for me.  I don't like love triangles much.  Even though Lexie told Trent they couldn't be together she still loves him.  And while she knows she can't have Alessandro, she flirts and ends up having feelings for him.
This whole scenario is OFF THE CHARTS....
But no matter how torn you are, Lexie grows by leaps and bounds.  She steps up and owns the feelings she has.
I was utterly blown away with the situations of this book, but Lisa Desrochers did a fantastic job writing it.
I finished A Little Too Far satisfied and happy with how it all turned out.  I am so glad that Lexie followed her heart and ended up with the love of her life.
A compelling, intriguing, unique read that will leave you reeling, A Little Too far is a MUST READ!

Then, Now, Forever
by Teodora Kostova

THEN"Gia had let Beppe into her life so easily, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. She’d held him when he’d hurt so badly he’d thought he might die; she’d talked him down when he’d been so angry he’d considered doing something he’d regret for the rest of his life.
Gia had saved his life.
At least once he needed to be strong for her.
This right now, this moment, was theirs. It belonged to them, not to abusive or dead fathers, not to guilt, regret or sorrow, not to the past or the future."
But will their love survive when tragedy separates them?
“I have to go, Gia. I’m tired and I feel empty. I know you need me, but I have nothing left to give you. I need to heal.”
“I miss you so much it’s hard to breathe.”
NOW
"Beppe was still Gia’s closest friend. But they’d never be anything more than that again. Remembering what it felt like to have the person you love most in the world be torn away from you still hurt. Gia was determined never to be put into that position again."
There was never lack of love, but can Beppe win Gia’s trust again?
FOREVER
“When I was broken you gave me pieces of yourself and made me whole again.”

Capstone
(Cornerstone Series)
by Misty Provencher

It's supposed to stink. That's what Cusps do.

The Ianua, Nalena and Garrett's own community, have welcomed them back by charging them as traitors and chucking them into the Hotel Celare's slammer.
And outside the fortress walls, it's no better.
The Cusp is at full-boil as the world finally surrenders to The Fury's lifestyle. Looting, riots, murders—every kind of crime has become the norm—and The Fury want to make it all permanent. They might even succeed, now that they've nabbed all thirteen of the Ianua's Cornerstones.
To preserve mankind, the only chance the Ianua have left is to beat The Fury to the Earth's Core and somehow trigger the Reset.
Like that's easy.
There's no manual on how to activate a Reset. Nobody even knows if there’s an actual Core to the Earth.
Shoot, it could be one big myth; an epic waste of effort.
But the Addo thinks there is one last hope.
Maybe.
So long as someone is willing to sacrifice everything to be mankind's long shot.

Not a Drop to Drink
by Mindy McGinnis
Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all.
Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.
But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….
With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.
