BLOG TOUR: Steel Lily by Megan Curd

WAHOO!! Boy do we have a treat for you guys!! Today we have the one and only Jaxon from Megan Curd's Steel Lily in the hot seat.  So, pull up a chair, make sure you have your refreshments, and let's find out all we can about this intriguing fella!!
TSK TSK:  What is something you hate to do?
Jaxon:  I hate to deal with stupid people. ::laughs:: Well, I take that back. If I can have fun with them while I have to be with them, then that’s fun. Take Alice, for example. She’s a gullible soul. ::dodges a punch from Alice:: She’s not dumb – you hear that, Alice? You’re not dumb! – she’s just gullible. So I have fun with that. She’s good to keep around for amusement. I’m glad Avery found her.

TSK TSK:  What do you do like to do for fun?
Jaxon: When I was at Chromelius Academy, I loved sneaking out and driving the Porsche I saved from the car lot. That car was a beauty. I miss it. I especially miss Avery’s look of terror when I took it around corners the night we went out. ::makes a horror-stricken face, and Avery shoves hims::

TSK TSK:  First impressions of Avery?
Jaxon: Well, considering I was saving her life, I thought she was a big hassle and hoped she was worth the effort. ::winks at Avery:: The jury is still out, but I’m beginning to think she’s all right. ::smiles::

TSK TSK:  What is something Avery does that drives you crazy?
Jaxon: Ha! She drives me crazy all the time, but I guess if I have to pinpoint a single thing, her eye-rolling is going to be the death of me. Eye-rolling is just jealousy for not being able to come up with something witty quick enough. ::grins::

TSK TSK:  What are your goals for the future?
Jaxon: Besides just to survive? I don’t want to tell too much for people who haven’t read what Avery’s gotten us all into, but let’s just say there’s lots of work to do.

TSK TSK:  Favorite memory?
Jaxon: Driving that Porsche… ::then looks at Avery, who’s giving him the stink eye:: Do you want me to look like a sap all over the internet, or what? I need to keep my reputation! Okay, okay…I did enjoy the first night we were together without the threat of death by various maniacal plots. ::leans in to Kathryn:: Just tell people my favorite memory was driving the Porsche.

TSK TSK:  Is there anything you are afraid of?
Jaxon:  ::looks away:: Yeah, of course there’s things I’m afraid of. I don’t really want to get into that, but I guess I’m afraid of failure. We can’t afford to fail.

TSK TSK: WOW!! Thank you so much Jaxon for answering our questions.  So everyone, what did you think?  Intrigued I bet!! Want to know more about this funny, crazy, smart guy?? Well, you are going to have to pick up a copy of Steel Lily and read it in order to have the secrets revealed.

Title: Steel Lily
Author: Megan Curd
Genre: Dystopian
Blurb:
AVERY PIKE is a commodity. No, more than a commodity. Her existence is guarded at all costs.
She’s a water Elementalist, the strongest of her dwindling kind. She creates steam to provide energy to fuel Dome Three: the only thing standing between humanity and an earth ravaged by World War III. No steam, no Dome. No Dome, no life.
Or so she thinks.
That is, until a mysterious man offers her a way out of having to donate steam. A way to escape the corrupt government of Dome Three. While the offer seems too good to be true, Avery is intrigued.
But when she arrives to her new home, she realizes the grass isn’t any less dead on this side of the fence. Instead, the lies are just hidden better.
…Which means digging deeper.
When Avery enlists the help of her friends to uncover the truth, it may make her wonder if she was better off being a government tool than searching for freedom.
Some secrets are better left concealed, but humankind was never meant to live in a cage. And when you can control the most sought after resource, you can learn to control anything…including the fate of your world.

I was moving double time to keep up with his long strides. He seemed so sure of himself, so in control of his destiny, even in this place, where he claimed we were imprisoned. I didn’t have a shred of doubt that what Jaxon wanted, Jaxon got. He owned his life. I so desperately wanted to own mine as well. Could he help me take control of it, or would he cause it to crash around my feet? For some reason, it felt like either option would be exhilarating if he were involved.
Exhilarating and dangerous.
The back of his shirt was soaked. The small “v” of muscles at the base of his spine flexed as he craned his neck to make sure I was still behind him. Why did that give me butterflies?
He turned and smiled. “Are you even listening to me? You’re way past your ogling allotment.”
“I’m not ogling you.”
“Trust me, I’ve experienced enough ogling to know it when I see it. If you’d prefer to ogle in peace, I’ll turn around again. There have been contests where my ass took first place in squeezability.”
“You must have been the only person in the running.”

He grinned mischievously. “And the only one to vote, but a win is still a win, right?”

I am first going to mention that the cover of this book is PHENOMENAL!  I fell in love with it and knew that this story was going to be AMAZING!! And guess what?? Yep...it was AMAZING!!
So, let me say that Steel Lily rocks the dystopian and steampunk genre. We walk in to a world with devastation; yet there is still so much technology to keep the world thriving. After the great war, radiation poisoning prompted people to live in domes to protect them from the harshness of the outside world.  Now we have these different governments set up in the numerous domes out there taking advantage of the people within their walls. BUT, what makes this story even more special is that there are people with extraordinary talents, gifts if you want to call it. They are able to do things with steam, elements that others can't and in turn they can be exploited for those talents.  This brings us to Avery.  Right off the bat we find this spunky girl who can manufacture more steam than anyone else and being an orphan this works for the government very nicely.
This isn't an ideal situation for Avery and she finds that times are getting harder and harder.  So, a chance meeting and a choice laid before her, she turns to a close friend and this is when the story rockets off.
Events transpire and we then find our heroine rescued by the mysterious Jaxon. Transported to a new dome with a whole different regime, Avery begins to question everything and battle with who she really is.  Struggling to understand the feelings she has and the burden placed on her shoulders of what's expected of her.
Megan Curd weaves a fantastical tale within the pages of Steel Lily.  I was captivated from the moment I opened up to first page.  With brilliantly well developed characters that seize your undivided attention, causing you to connect and feel everything they are encountering on their journey; you hold your breath and gasp at the twists and surprises that turn their world upside down.
Magnificently written with an alluring storyline, Steel Lily is a book you do not want to miss out on...
