REVIEW: Violet Dawn by Lynn Rush

Hey guys! Shelley here! *book nerd wave* Welcome back to the blog! First--- I want to say a big THANK YOU to Lynn Rush and her awesome publicist Michele Trent, for gifting the ARC of this absolutely fantastic new edition to Lynn's Violet Night trilogy.
Our blog was part of Lynn's Release Day Blog Party yesterday, and I'm thrilled to be able to bring you my review today.
We've shared the news so I'm going straight in to my review...

In the darkest place, the Light shines brightest.
Emma’s love saved Jake from life as a vampire. But their happily ever after is threatened by a savage Vamp seeking retribution for destroying the Avenos Trinity of Evil.
A mysterious stranger enters the mix, coinciding with the first Vamp attack in months. Emma’s new friendship, and the suspicion and deceit surrounding it, further drives a wedge between her and Jake.
To complicate things, Emma is bitten by a Vamp with abilities no one has ever seen before, and that bite has left its mark.
A mark that might tear Jake and Emma apart forever…

Driven to write, Lynn Rush often sees her characters by closing her eyes watching their story unfold in her mind. Lynn Rush is a pen name that is a combination of two sources – Lynn, the first name of her mother-in-law, who passed away and Rush – since the author is a former inline speed skater and mountain biker. All of Rush’s books are dedicated to Lynn, her namesake, and a portion of the proceeds benefits cancer research and awareness.

I was already a fan of our heroine Emma. And the love of her life Jake? GAWD! what's not to love? But these two (and Lynn, of course) just blew me away here. They are the perfect team. Sure they're still young, and doubts can sprout up out of nowhere, but their love for each other never wavers. Regardless of any doubts, fears or challenges, they manage to realize their love is real and nothing can break them apart... right? RIGHT!?!? That's what we've come to believe. But can the Big Bad Evil and his minions be their undoing?
Well, well, well. They certainly are put to the test and then some. I don't know what it is about my favorite authors lately, but man--- they have really had me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails (and hey, I'm NOT a nail biter, dammit), clutching my chest, rooting, cheering and SHOUTING for my heroes, and cursing out loud every time I have to put their book down. Lynn made this book was no exception. Seriously... when I had to go to work, answer the phone or the door--- go to SLEEP, I cussed and swore like nobody's business.
I was so immediately wrapped back up into Emma and Jake's world. I wanted to read from start to finish and never put the book down. It nearly killed me. I had a hard time pulling myself away.
As usual, the story was nonstop action and romance... the sweetest, most honest, wonderful *sigh* romance.
And I couldn't get enough.
Lynn weaves a most fabulous web of secrets, lies, betrayal, HISTORY, mystery and paranormal intrigue, that you can't help but get caught up in. She writing is so strong that you physically feel everything the pair goes through. And as vamp hunters and young lovers, they go through a LOT. Like I said- nonstop action-surprises-twists and turns- AND an amazing cast of characters.
While my heart pounded never really knowing if my friends were going to live through this installment, I was also elated with their growth, and thrilled by the relationships they've held onto and continued to build. The friendships here know no bounds. The loyalty and protective natures of the core characters drives the story as much as the Hunter destiny's. And what's really amazing is the depths each of them will go to help each other.
Of course I loved Jake and Emma--- and hoped with all my heart that they could hold on and make it through. But who really stole my heart this time around was Emma's bff Ava. The girl's a spitfire and a constant surprise. We also see an cameo or two from an old friend that I love as well.
Ok, ok... enough with the mushy gushing. Violet Dawn is not all fun and games. Well, there were a lot of games, just not the fun kind. We had old and new enemies with more tricks up their sleeves and a lust for vengeance and violence--- and Emma. The Hunter's come up against their toughest foe yet. Bloodthirsty, smart, INSANE, and able to do things they've never seen or heard of. This story is intense. Violent. And enthralling.
Do they get the bad guy(s)? Does everyone survive? Do Emma and Jake come out stronger than ever? Obviously you'll have to read the book yourself to find out, but I will tell you, the ending is perfect, and I can't wait to see how Lynn will wrap this all up with the next and final installment. One thing's for sure--- the Big Bad is still out there and I have a feeling we ain't seen nothing yet.

BLOG TOUR: Moonset by Scott Tracey

A day in the life of Scott Tracey:

Are my editor and/or agent reading this?  Then this is my answer:
I tend to wake up bright and early with the sun.  I eat a quick breakfast that I can hold in one hand while the other scrolls through all the work I put into the manuscript the day before.  I allow myself one cup of coffee to make me alert, and then I jump to the end and start writing furiously.  10 minute break for lunch.  5 minute snack break.  Fifteen minutes for dinner.
I would never even think of taking a day off, because I'm so focused and driven and such a good client.
The end.

Okay, are they gone?  This is what it's REALLY like.
Wake up.  Pray to the caffeine gods that my roommate has already made coffee and there's a fresh pot waiting in the kitchen.  That only happens about 50% of the time.  If there is coffee, getting out of bed is easy.  If there is not, it's more of a struggle.  It involves lots of grumbling, an inability to pull myself out of my room, occasionally walking into walls, getting distracted, forgetting what I was doing, etc.  Eventually, I make my way into the kitchen and brew the coffee.  And then, when I fall asleep while waiting for it to brew, I inevitably lose out on the first cup to my roommate.  And everyone knows the first cup is the best.
After no less than two cups of coffee, I am finally awake.  Typically, I break my writing stuff up into sessions.  I'll either work off and on for a few hours, in between doing other things, or I'll be super diligent and start doing 30 minute stretches of NOTHING but work on my project.  Whether it's Word or Scrivener, it goes on Full Screen and I'm not allowed to X out of it until I've reached my goal. Then I take a short break (usually 15-20 minutes) and repeat for several hours.
Most days, though, it's more relaxed.  I'll try to get a bunch done early, before I realize that I'm actually awake and ruining my reputation by being productive before noon.  I'll give myself a daily word goal to keep me motivated - if I have to go to the day job, then I will write about 1,000 words.  Every other day it's 2,000.  If I have other stuff to work on, like promo materials or answering emails, I try to sprinkle those out in between.
I live with another writer, and both of us work in our bedrooms, so if/when something catches our attention, we'll cross the hallway to talk about it.  Most of the time this involves publishing news, something funny one of us saw on Tumblr, emails we've received, etc.
The goal is typically to be halfway done before the afternoon is over.  So that way I can do a late night push and get the rest of my words in.  If I have managed to get all my words written for the day, then I bump up my goal by 1,000 words.
If I get stuck, or I'm having a hard time with the writing/editing, I tend to clean a lot.  I get manic and a little spastic, and so I'll start cleaning something in the kitchen only to move to the bathroom and start another project just to put that on hold to start vacuuming.  It's a process.  Sort of.
Usually once or twice a week, my roommate and I will go out to dinner (instead of throwing something together at 9pm because we both forgot about dinner) and end up talking writing, publishing, or whatever is going on with us at the moment. A lot of times those dinners out help either put things into perspective, or spark an idea on how to move forward.
Late night is really where I start to unwind.  I don't end up writing so much, but I will scribble down notes for the next day if something occurs to me.  Some of my favorite lines come out of context only to be worked in later.
And then I go to bed sometime late in the evening, only to get up and start it all over again!

Moonset, a coven of such promise . . . Until they turned to the darkness.

After the terrorist witch coven known as Moonset was destroyed fifteen years ago—during a secret war against the witch Congress—five children were left behind, saddled with a legacy of darkness. Sixteen-year-old Justin Daggett, son of a powerful Moonset warlock, has been raised alongside the other orphans by the witch Congress, who fear the children will one day continue the destruction their parents started.
A deadly assault by a wraith, claiming to work for Moonset’s most dangerous disciple, Cullen Bridger, forces the five teens to be evacuated to Carrow Mill. But when dark magic wreaks havoc in their new hometown, Justin and his siblings are immediately suspected. Justin sets out to discover if someone is trying to frame the Moonset orphans . . . or if Bridger has finally come out of hiding to reclaim the legacy of Moonset. He learns there are secrets in Carrow Mill connected to Moonset’s origins, and keeping the orphans safe isn’t the only reason the Congress relocated them . .
Scott Tracey is a YA author who lived on a Greyhound for a month, wrote his illustrated autobiography at the age of six, and barely survived Catholic school (and definitely not for the reasons you might think).
He is the author of WITCH EYES, chosen as one of Amazon’s Best LGBT Books of 2011, as well as an ALA Popular Paperback in the Forbidden Romance category.  The final book in the WITCH EYES trilogy, PHANTOM EYES, will be released in the fall of 2013.
He is also the author of MOONSET, a new series which will be released April 8, 2013, as well as a contributor to the SHADOWHUNTERS & DOWNWORLDERS anthology, edited by Cassandra Clare.
His career highlights include: accidentally tripping a panic alarm which led to nearly being shot by the police; attacked in a drive-thru window by a woman wielding a baked potato, and once moving cross country for a job only to quit on the second day.
His gifts can be used for good or evil, but rather than picking a side, he strives for BOTH (in alternating capacity) for his own amusement.

The giveaway for this tour is for a copy of MOONSET to FIVE winners. The giveaway is US only, ages 13 or older to enter.

MOST WANTED: 4/1/13

In A Heartbeat
by Teodora Kostova

Stella
“I’ve been in and out of hospitals for the past ten months. I’ve had half my liver removed and even though this time the doctors are very optimistic that they’ve removed all of the tumours, they can’t be sure. In another three months they want me here again for a check up. Right now I feel better than I’ve ever felt. I know the damn thing is gone, at least for the moment. Despite that, I can’t make any plans for the future, not yet. I need to go somewhere where nobody knows me, where I can relax and maybe even forget about all this. Where I can meet people who don’t think of me as the girl who lost her father and her brother in a car accident, and who has cancer. I want to have fun, even if it’s for a couple of months.”
When Stella decides to visit her estranged cousin Lisa in Genoa, she has no idea Italy will give her a new reason to live.

Max
“Her gaze locked on a scene so beautiful, the picturesque beach paled in comparison. A lifeguard emerged from the water, his orange trunks stuck to his legs and water dripping all over him. He shook his head to get rid of some of the water in his hair and Stella felt as if everything started developing in slow motion – tiny drops of water slid from his neck down his broad chest and muscular arms, along a weaving tattoo on his right shoulder, and continued downwards towards his chest and washboard stomach, finally getting lost in the waistband of his trunks. A part of another tattoo peeked over his trunks on his left hip, the other part hidden under them. It was a total Baywatch moment.”
Their love is epic. But there are too many things keeping them apart.
“How could you keep this from me, Lisa? If you had told me the first day I met him, I would have avoided him like the plague. Nothing would have happened between us.”
“I kept your secrets, too, Stella.”
Are Max and Stella strong enough to fight not only for their love, but for their lives?

Walking Disaster
by Jamie McGuire
Finally, the highly anticipated follow-up to the New York Times bestseller Beautiful Disaster.

Can you love someone too much?
Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love hard. Fight harder.

In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. But just when he thinks he is invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.

Every story has two sides. In Beautiful Disaster, Abby had her say. Now it’s time to see the story through Travis’s eyes.

Naturals
(The Lost Souls)
by Tiffany Truitt
Tess is finally safe from the reach of the Council, now that she is living in the Middlelands with the rebel Isolationists. With James having returned to Templeton, she easily falls back into her friendship with Henry, though her newfound knowledge of Robert’s chosen one status still stings. Even surrounded by people, Tess has never felt more alone. So she’s thrilled when James returns to the settlement, demanding to see Tess — until she finds out that it’s because her sister, Louisa, has been recruited into Tess’s old position at Templeton, and that the dangerously sadistic chosen one George has taken an interest in her.

The Collector
by Victoria Scott
He makes good girls...bad.

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple: weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.
Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn't want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days.

Dante doesn't know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried.

Dark Triumph
(His Dark Assassins)
by Robin LaFevers
Sybella arrives at the convent’s doorstep half mad with grief and despair. Those that serve Death are only too happy to offer her refuge—but at a price. Naturally skilled in both the arts of death and seduction, the convent views Sybella as one of their most dangerous weapons.
But those assassin’s skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to a life that nearly drove her mad. Her father’s rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother’s love is equally monstrous. And while Sybella is a weapon of justice wrought by the god of Death himself, He must give her a reason to live. When she discovers an unexpected ally imprisoned in the dungeons, will a daughter of Death find something other than vengeance to live for?
This heart-pounding sequel to Grave Mercy serves betrayal, treachery, and danger in equal measure, bringing readers back to fifteenth century Brittany and will keep them on the edge of their seats.

Die for Her
(Revenants 2.5)
by Amy Plum
Set in the romantic and death-defying world of the international bestselling Die for Me trilogy, this digital original novella follows Jules, a brooding, immortal French artist who has fallen in love with his best friend’s girlfriend.

Jules Marchenoir is a revenant-an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save human lives. He’s spent the better part of the last century flirting his way through Paris, but when he met Kate Mercier, the heroine from Amy Plum’s Die for Me trilogy, he knew his afterlife had changed forever and he had found the love of his life. Until Kate fell for his best friend, Vincent. Now Jules is faced with an impossible decision: choosing between his loyal friend and a love truly worth dying for.

Nameless
by Lili St. Crow
When Camille was six years old, she was discovered alone in the snow by Enrico Vultusino, godfather of the Seven—the powerful Families that rule magic-ridden New Haven. Papa Vultusino adopted the mute, scarred child, naming her after his dead wife and raising her in luxury on Haven Hill alongside his own son, Nico.
Now Cami is turning sixteen. She’s no longer mute, though she keeps her faded scars hidden under her school uniform, and though she opens up only to her two best friends, Ruby and Ellie, and to Nico, who has become more than a brother to her. But even though Cami is a pampered Vultusino heiress, she knows that she is not really Family. Unlike them, she is a mortal with a past that lies buried in trauma. And it’s not until she meets the mysterious Tor, who reveals scars of his own, that Cami begins to uncover the secrets of her birth…to find out where she comes from and why her past is threatening her now.
New York Times bestselling author Lili St. Crow thrilled legions of fans with her dark paranormal series Strange Angels. Now she has crafted an evocative update of Snow White, set in a vividly imagined world and populated by unforgettable new characters.

In the Shadow of Blackbirds
by Cat Winters
In 1918, the world seems on the verge of apocalypse. Americans roam the streets in gauze masks to ward off the deadly Spanish influenza, and the government ships young men to the front lines of a brutal war, creating an atmosphere of fear and confusion. Sixteen-year-old Mary Shelley Black watches as desperate mourners flock to séances and spirit photographers for comfort, but she herself has never believed in ghosts. During her bleakest moment, however, she’s forced to rethink her entire way of looking at life and death, for her first love—a boy who died in battle—returns in spirit form. But what does he want from her?

Featuring haunting archival early-twentieth-century photographs, this is a tense, romantic story set in a past that is eerily like our own time.

BLOG TOUR: JAMB (Cornerstone series) by Misty Provencher

Welcome to our stop on Misty Provencher's JAMB Release Blog Tour! We are super excited to bring you THE Contego Power Couple Garrett and Nalena! Yup, we got 'em right cheer, babee! Oh! We've got our reviews of JAMB AND smashing GIVEAWAYS for ya as well.
Let's get to it, shall we?

Tsk Tsk: So, Garrett and Nali, What is one thing that the other does that drives you bats*** crazy?
Nalena:  He is soooo polite and gives people the benefit of the doubt.  Like with Jen- I wanted him to throw her out of his house, but he was calm and heard her out. I love it about him, but it drives me crazy too.
Tsk Tsk: Sweet. But we can see where it would get irritating. Sorry, Garrett.
Garrett:  (laughing) You do the same thing with Milo, don't you? (Nalena rolls her eyes at him, but laughs too) What she does that really drives me crazy is simple.  She wears this vanilla almond lip gloss.  She tastes like Heaven.
Tsk Tsk: *Ahem* Yes, so we've heard. *crooked smiles to Nali*
Do you see marriage and children in your future?
(Nalena blushes)

Garrett:  Sure, but we have to get through binding first and that's totally freaking her out.
(Nalena nods)
Nalena:  It is.
Tsk Tsk: Oh yes, the BINDING. It's an intense and serious thing for a first love, right.
What is your biggest fear?
Nalena: I think it's...
Garrett:  Sorry, I don't think we should answer that question. We're in charge of watching over others. I don't think anyone should have their fingers on our pulse, if you know what I mean. No offense.
Tsk Tsk: None taken, of course. We'll move on...
What do you love the most about each other?

Nalena: His nose.
Garrett: Here I was thinking there was something irresistible about my personality.
Nalena: Well, sure, he's got a million things that I love about him, but it comes down to his nose. His nose is so smooth, you've never felt one like it.
*the girls share a giggle *

(Garrett rubs his nose)
Garrett: Really? That's all it takes?
Nalena: (leaning over, kisses him) Hardly.
Tsk Tsk: What is your favorite thing to do together?
Garrett: I like sparring with her. I get to put my hands all over her.
Nalena: I just love talking to him. But letting him put his hands all over me...I hadn't thought of that. That's my favorite now too.

Tsk Tsk: Is it getting hot in here?
Name something the other does that you think is "cute".

Garrett: She sniffs me. She thinks I don't know, but I always see her close her eyes and then she breathes me in. Hands down, the cutest thing ever.
Nalena:  How embarrassing!
Garrett:  It's true, isn't it?
Nalena:  That's what's so cute about him. He smells like citrus and snow and everything good.
I can't help smelling him!

Tsk Tsk: That is pretty cute, Nali. *loudly whispers* It is pretty intoxicating.
What song reminds you of the other?
Nalena: (looking at Garrett) I Belong to You by Lauren O'Connell?
Garrett: Definitely.
Tsk Tsk: What is one thing you would change if you could?
Nalena:  There'd be no Cusps, no upset in the world.
Garrett:  Peace would be great.
Tsk Tsk: That's a beautiful thought.
Do you see an end to the War?

Garrett: The Addo says the battles always end, but the war, the war is just the two sides of humanity, always trying to stay balanced. It can never end.
Nalena:  I still like to pretend that the Addo is wrong about that.
Garrett:  THAT is the second cutest thing she does. She pretends the best things possible.  She's irresistible.
Tsk Tsk: Aw... we think you're both irresistible. Thanks so much for joining us.
Garrett and Nalena: Thanks for having us!
Tsk Tsk: There ya go, folks. What a fun little chat. Aren't they just adorable? And sweet. And strong. And courageous. Ok, you get the picture. We. Just. Love. Them.

And now for more about the series and the third installment. Isn't that why we're here...

A second ago, Nalena opened her eyes. And she was safe in Garrett’s arms. Then it all comes rushing back—the riots, The Fury, the Cusp. The Ianua community is in a major jam. Forced into survival mode, the Ianua are holed up in the fortress of the Hotel Celare. Each Cura’s top-ranking members have gathered to guard the last remaining Addo, as the entire community also scrambles to trust one another and organize a new game plan to overthrow The Fury. The trick is to keep the human race alive. But The Fury’s game has changed. They have a Mastermind at the helm and he is out to destroy the Ianua. Terrifying and brilliant, this mysterious Mastermind has organized and focused The Fury like never before. He has recruited the Simple and unleashed the Cusp’s wide-spread chaos all around the world. And behind the scenes of this big picture, Nalena and everyone around her are busy trying to keep up, while also absorbing the rapid-fire aftershocks of their changing lives. There are traitors everywhere. While The Cusp is expected to bring twists and turns, Nalena and Garrett never expected it to throw a silverware-drawer full of forks into the road. Each path tests their loyalty and their faith and makes them question who is who. Including themselves. And each other. And in the end, some things, you can never see coming.

Wow! Misty does it again. If you've read any of the Cornerstone series, you know it's a story richly detailed with an intricate and always intense plotline. Jamb is no exception.
Jamb picks up right where Keystone left us... in the middle of an uproar, full of chaos with everyone questioning loyalties, and Nalena recovering and trying to make sense of it all. That's no easy task. The Ianua's Cura's are crumbling. Addo Larry's Cura is isolated, and all out war seems inevitable.
It's absolute insanity. With so much lost in the previous installment it's hard to believe the stakes could get any higher, that there could be more loss and sacrifice, that emotions could be heightened nearly to the point of frenzy, but that's exactly what happens here. And it calls for extreme measures.
So much information is thrown at Nali that she has a hard time knowing what to believe, who to trust, what to do next, and whether she can depend on her father as her Connection and Garrett as her Vieo. It creates the inability to see the truth right before your eyes. And makes her position, responsibilities and cool more difficult to control.
This story sent me on the biggest roller coaster ride EVER. Each time I thought Nalena and crew made some headway, another wrench is tossed in the spoke and the tables turn. Even as I read passages of speculating, calculating, and planning, I was on the edge of my seat quickly turning page after page trying to anticipate what was coming next. Now I'm pretty good at predicting scenarios, but Misty fooled me again and again, amping up my emotions and fueling my anxiety as I hoped and prayed, chewing my nails to the quick, that everyone would come out alive.
So much is crammed into this beauty that it's easy to get lost in it. You get so caught up in the Ianua world, their way of thinking, their community, and you find yourself questioning what and who you believe, who Nalena should follow and how this could possibly end in any way but badly. So you hold your breathe; anticipation and hope building to the last page where...
You guessed it. Another. Major. CLIFFHANGER. UGH! Mary, Jesus and Joseph! Sweet agony and torture. But never fear, Misty leaves you with just enough hope that everyone returns and they may finally be able to Reset and save mankind. Well, she leaves you hoping anyway...
Jamb is full of action, passion, thrills and surprises. And though it was often dark, gut wrenching, shocking and downright sad, it filled my heart with more love for these fantastic characters, and left me itching to get my hands on book four. Is it ready yet, Misty???

HOLY FREAKIN CRAP!!! I mean...OH WOW!! JAMB is just sooo phenomenal...I am sitting here trying to take it all in and wrap my brain around all that happened....Whew!!! From start to finish you are thrust back in to the world of Nalena and Garrett and let me say, IT IS A DOOZY!!
Immediately we are drawn in to the events that left us at the end of Keystone. The world is falling apart and everyone is in a disarray.  We begin understanding the lengths in which they are going to have to go through in order to gain control of the chaos outside because, in order to control it, they must first control what is going on right under their own roof.
Oh goodness, I couldn't get enough of this story.  It literally took me on an emotional roller coaster. There were moments of joy, passion, relief, grief, anger, worry...I was totally immersed in the lives of these characters.  So invested that I was completely SHOCKED at the events that passed as I drove further along in the story.  I became so pissed...I mean PISSED at what was transpiring.  Albeit, I knew the reasoning behind it, but so angry that it had to happen.  Man, my chest got so tight because I could feel the pain and hurt from Nalena and all I could do was keep reading, HOPING that things were going to turn around.  I truly just wanted to skip this part and get to the end...The world has become such a dark place and finding the right people to trust seems almost impossible. So, as I pushed through the difficult part, I kept thinking, ok, lets get this wrapped up nice and neat....then, in the back of my head I heard Misty's evil laugh...Yeah, we still have another book after this, so, we are left with a cliffhanger...OMG...falling off the cliff dying because I WANT...NEED....to know what happens....*shakes head and sighs*
So, I now reflect on all that I took in....My thoughts have ultimately changed about certain characters when secrets were revealed.  Finally some of my questions were answered that have been plaguing me, yet at the exact time, causing new ones to form.  Learning more about Milo gave me a new appreciation for him.  And the relationship of Nalena and Garrett touches my soul with such adoration.  I absolutely LOVE reading about them.
So, I am now waiting for book 4...yes Misty...I want it now...but I know, I know...you can't rush genius... brilliance....This book is creatively unique, suspenseful, twisted, with emotional gut-wrenching moments that have you screaming at your book...If you haven't picked up this series yet...What are you waiting for??
