BLOG TOUR: Allegiance (Causal Enchantment #3) by K A Tucker

Hi everyone! Kathryn here! It's another special day for me on the blog. Most of you know that I'm a pretty big fan of Kathleen-aka- K. A. Tucker and her enthralling vampire series, Casual Enchantment. Allegiance- the latest book in the series has just been released and the blog tour is in full swing... and I got the opportunity to sit down and interview K A herself.
So grab your favorite beverage, sit back, get comfy...and get to know the wonderful author of the Casual Enchantment series--K. A. Tucker...
KG: How did you decide to write the Causal Enchantment series?
KT: I had an idea one day and I started writing without an outline or a sweet clue as to where it would lead. LOL. I think I have that first draft somewhere. I'm sure I'd have a permanent cringe on my face if I read it now.
KG: How much research goes in to writing this series?
KT: Surprisingly, not a lot. Given I've stretched all boundaries and made the world and the magic my own, I'm not bound by reality. That being said, I did do research on little pieces like what Paris was like in the 1870's and how cold Siberia really is in the dead of winter. Those are all little reality checks in a universe that pushes reality to the extreme.
KG: You certainly have made it all your own. The world building in the series is fantastic. And so compelling. What was the easiest/hardest part of writing Allegiance?
KT: I don't know that I could nail down an "easy" part in this book. It kicked my butt! Hardest part of writing it was keeping all the plot and subplot lines consistent. Man, there's a lot going on in here. The scene with the Fates probably gave me the most trouble.
KG: Well, my experience has been, when it kicks the author's butt during the writing process, it generally kicks butt on the pages for the reader. Allegiance is no exception.
Do you have any special rituals you go through when you are writing?
KT: My writing ritual is simple - put kids to bed, grab a tea and whatever I can snack on, and go to my room. Do not answer phone. Do not turn on television. Repeat. Seven days a week. (LOL. I have no life.)
KG: LOL. We hear that a LOT.
Do you have a playlist that goes with Allegiance? The series?
KT: I do have a playlist for Allegiance. It's here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list= PL3yjMLvgHfbgZkyqHK7ytROTio5h5Gl_K
I wish it was on Spotify (the coolest tool ever) but Spotify doesn't work for Canada yet
KG: Wow! LOVE the list. Shelley gave it a BIG two thumbs up, by the way. She thought you should know that. *chuckles*
Do you write full time? If not, do you wish you could?
KT: Sadly, I do not though it is a dream of mine. I have a full time corporate-type career outside of writing. It is very good job in a very good company so I cannot complain. But, if I could ever spend my days writing instead, I'd be a happy camper.
KG: I say never give up the dream!
What are some of your favorite things to do?
KT: Aside from writing... I love to cook. I USED to cook a lot before I started writing (my husband likes to remind me of the fact that I don't anymore.) I have a huge collection of Fine Cooking magazines. Now I just look at the yummy pictures and think about making the recipes.
KG: *nods head in agreement*
Is there a character in your books that you just don't like?
KT: Nope! I love them all. Even the ones I love to hate. I couldn't name the one I love most.
KG: I do have a favorite, but I agree- it's hard to choose one. They're all...amazing.
Which character in your books do you feel is the most like you?
KT: Ha! Probably Sofie in terms of passion and overall determination. I wish I could shoot fire bolts out of my hands too...
KG: Wouldn't that be something...
Can you tell us anything about what will be in book 4?
KT: I wish I could but I can't! Not because I don't want to but because I don't know! I haven't started plotting it out yet. I know what I've left unresolved from Allegiance (intentionally) and I know that Book 4 will be an epic and bittersweet conclusion to the series. There'll be a lot of action and you'll see Evangeline like you've never seen her before. Aside from that? No clue
KG: Well, I for one, am anxiously- and nervously, awaiting the conclusion. I love the Casual Enchantment world, and while it will be bittersweet, it will be exciting to see where you take the crew- and the readers.
Who would you say is your favorite author? Favorite book?
KT: George R.R. Martin and his Song of Ice and Fire series. Hands down, all time fav. But there are so many incredible authors and books out there.
KG: Sooo many. I don't like answering that question myself.
What are you reading right now?
KT: Gabriel's Rapture by Sylvain Reynard. I read the first book in the summer and enjoyed it.
KG: We've been hearing quite a bit about Gabriel. I'm pretty sure we'll be checking him out soon. Speaking of beefcake...
Do you prefer sweets or salty snacks?
KT: *laughing*
Favorite?? SWEETS! I'm a candy fiend and I can't say no to a butter tart. If I could sit in a bakery all day and absorb the heavenly scents, I would. I also can't say no to crème brule if it's on the menu, even if my pants are about to bust open.
KG: *chuckles*
Thanks so much for joining me today, K. A.. It's been such a pleasure.
KT: The pleasure has been all mine, Kathryn.
KG: And there it is guys...a little peek into the life of K. A. Tucker- wife, mother, writer- and her captivating world of Casual Enchantment. I know I can't get enough of K A's writing- the characters and the world they live in. If you haven't already, get your copies of the series and Read. It. NOW...Anathema, Asylum and the newly released Allegiance are all available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. You really have no excuse to not start one tonight. And be sure to watch out for K. A.'s highly anticipated adult contemporary Ten Tiny Breathes.
Thanks again for stopping by TSK TSK What to Read. Happy reading! ~ Kathryn

Evangeline finally got what she longed for – the cursed pendant off her neck and Caden in her arms - only it has come at a steep price. An unknown poison now courses through her body, slowly morphing her into something no one but the Fates can foresee. She has her suspicions though...and, if she is right, it will spell certain ruin for her and Caden. She won’t last long enough to realize that though, if Viggo and Mortimer uncover the treasonous secrets she keeps from them– that Veronique is now free of her entombment and in the torturous clutches of the Witches and the Sentinel or that she is protecting a Sentinel within their very midst.
Always the naive human caught in the midst of the vampires’ web of deceit, Evangeline is now weaving her own dangerous web in order to keep her friend alive, rescue Veronique, and stop a seemingly inevitable war from starting. But can her honourable nature handle the depths of duplicity for which she must go to be in league with the Vampires?
Dark and gripping, full of angst-riddled scenes, Allegiance will have readers anxiously turning pages to find out if Evangeline can survive this spiralling disaster.

Well, we are now on book 3 of the Causal Enchantment series and just as before...this one blew me away.
I absolutely love how K.A. takes me on a journey that I was so not expecting.  Keeping me on my toes throughout the whole book, eagerly awaiting for events to unfold and then jumping for joy when things go the way I hope for...
Here we are with Evangeline, now under the Tribe's magic and slowly changing in to something she completely fears...Happily reunited with Caden, yet she now carries so many secrets that a wall erects between them and their encounters become tense and filled with longing.  I just wanted to grab Evie and shake some sense in to her when she made some of the decisions she did, I mean, I understood through her reasoning why she made those decisions, but I just didn't agree when I knew loved ones were getting hurt.
Well, enough of that, because as I said before, this book was just as phenomenal as the first two.  It carries you through so much.  We get to meet some new characters that really add some interesting elements to the storyline as well as see Sofie's plans come together.  Are they successful?  I won't tell you...but, I will say this, K A led me down a path in this book that I did not see coming.  I absolutely love that I couldn't guess what was going to happen.  Up to the very end was I sighing for relief and then holding my breath again at  what is to come...
So much happens in Allegiance that talking about one thing can give away to something else.  I don't like to give any spoilers so I will just say that once I opened this book up, I couldn't put it down!
The Causal Enchantment series is such a unique vampire tale that you don't feel like you are reading the same thing over and over.  The characters are thoroughly developed with a slow growth in each book.  You are immediately drawn to them and find yourself thinking about them days after you have finished the book.  The world created by K.A. in this series is mind-blowing.  Refreshing, creative, unconventional, and an overall remarkable storyline, this series is one that you will not want to miss out on!!
If you haven't started this series yet...Anathema is the first book...Get yours today!!

I want to give a special thanks to SupaGurl Blog Tours and of course to the author...K.A. Tucker for this amazing series!

BLOG TOUR: Beyond the Veil by Quinn Loftis

Kathryn: We have a real treat for you today. It's our stop on the Beyond theVeil blog tour, and we were lucky enough to snare an interview with the everpopular author of this spectacular series-Quinn Loftis.
Shelley: Kathryn is a huge fan of the series and Quinn. They've become fastfriends. I still have them on my chaotic TBR- waiting patiently. Kathryn talksoften about The Grey Wolves, but what I usually hear is... "This series isPHENOMENAL! " "I LOVE these characters!" "Quinn isGREAT" "I love Quinn"..."WHY haven't you read these yet???...you get the drift. ;)
So...when I heard we were hosting Quinn, I asked if I could sit in on theinterview- to get to know Quinn better right along with YOU. *turns to Kathryn*Bet you're regretting that decision.
K: Annnyway...Yes, we had the opportunity to ask Quinn some questions, and shegraciously replied. She IS great. And this is going to be a lot of FUN. *stickstongue out at Shelley* Please give a Wolf Pack welcome to Quinn Loftiseveryone!
S: *snorts*
K:*grins* So our first question is...not actually a question, but here it is...Name 5 famous people you would love to have dinner with (dead or alive).

Quinn: Jesus George Washington Patricia Briggs Dolly Parton Dr. Seuss
S: What a random list.
K: Don't try to find a pattern- you won't. Tell us something only your bestfriend would know.

Quinn: I like the smell of scotch tape, because it reminds me of Christmas
S: Now that's kind of weird.
K: It's quirky- and it's very Quinn. Just go with it What's on your iPod rightnow? (Top 5 songs)

Quinn: Just Give Me a Reason – Pink Try- Pink Harder to Breathe- Maroon 5 Belong To– Secondhand Serenade Too Close – Alex Clare
S: Now there's a pattern here. *Kathryn shakes her head* Can you share afavorite quote or passage from Beyond the Veil?
Quinn: "If he was easy, compliant, and tolerant of her, she would turn himinto a wolf rug and walk all over him," Jacque explained."Seriously," Jen added. "I can't French kiss a rug. Well Icould, but then people would think I'd passed from mildly demented intofull-blown off her rocker."
S: I think I'd like this Jen.
K: *chuckles* Yes, you would.
When writing, is there a certain process or ritual that you go through? Certainitems that you must have?

Quinn: Go to the library, get a chocolate muffin, medium diet coke. Have my iphonewith my music, a notebook to write down important facts about characters orsituations.
S: Sounds like a good routine to me.
K: You just like the chocolate muffinpart.
S: * tilts head* And???...What is your favorite dessert?

Quinn: Ice cream
K: Interesting choice.
S: Hmm. No elaborating?
K: Why does she need to elaborate?
* Shelley shrugs*

K: Where is somewhere you would like to travel to? Why?
Quinn: All over. I’ve never left North America. I would love to see Europe and therich history. Our country is young compared to many others.
<We would both very much enjoy that ourselves. We actually talk abouttraveling a lot. >
S: If you could have any magical power, what would you choose and why?
Quinn: Funny thing, I write about characters with magical qualities and lovecreating those worlds. But in reality I wouldn’t want the responsibility or theconsequences that came with those powers. Okay maybe I’d like to be able tohold my breath indefinitely so I could swim in the ocean without having to havea scuba tank ;)
K: Magic is a tricky business.
*Shelley nods in agreement*

S: Are you a morning or night person?
Quinn:  I’m dangerous in the morning. Def anight person
S: I so relate. My family warns people about talking to me in the morning.
K: Only in the morning?
S: Hardy har har...
K: Which book in the Grey Wolves series is your favorite?

Quinn: Beyond the Veil
S: That's it?!? Why???
K: Maybe she doesn't want to share why...
Is there a character that you find the easiest to write? The hardest?

Quinn: Jen is the easiest because her personality is most like mine. Sally thehardest because I’m nothing like her. I don’t know how she would really reactto situations so I feel like I’m shooting in the dark.

S: *whispers to Kathryn* What about Jacque? Isn't she your favorite?
K: We can ask about her later.
*Shelley nods*

K: Does the friendship of Jen, Jacque, and Sally represent you and yourfriends?
Quinn: It is modeled after my three closest friends from high school. We were a lotlike the three best friends. And did many a crazy thing.

S: Ha! She had her own pack even back then. *nudges Kathryn*
K: *elbows Shelley back* Can you for once just behave?
S: *whispers a hiss* Sorry!
<Kathryn shares a look with Quinn and they burst out laughing>
<Shelley pouts and sticks out her tongue >
K: *still chuckling* Mature as ever.

K: Can you tell us about what book 6 will be about? Any juicy deets?? :D
Quinn: Book 6…well as we if you have read BTV then you know how it ends- I know, Isuck. Book 6 is going to be tough emotionally, though I will still have thetrademark humor, the girls are fixing to have their meddle tested. Loyalties, love, life, death, sacrifice, consequences of them all- that’s book 6. My planis to have you sit down to read it and then end up at the edge of your seathaving gone through every emotion you’ve ever known, walking with thesecharacters through the hell they will endure, through the joys they will share, through the pain that will rip through them. I want the reader to feel likethey are there.
K: OMG! I'm on pins and needles already!
S: Ha! Sweet torture, eh, Kat? She loves that, Quinn. She really does. *coughsto hide laughter*
K: You are evil incarnate.
*Shelley winks*

S: Do you have any hobbies? If yes, what are they?
Quinn: Read, crochet, spend time with my amazing husband and son
S: Aw...that sounds sweet.
K: And relaxing... Thanks so much for joining us, Quinn. I always enjoy gettingto know more about you and the amazing Grey Wolves.
S: Yes! It's been great fun! Thank you! Can we do the giveaway now???

<in unison> Good LUCK! Happy Reading!

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.
If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.
Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

Eternally Yours

by Cate Tiernan

After 450 years of living, Nastasya Crowe should have more of a handle on this whole immortal thing....

After a deadly confrontation at the end of Darkness Falls, the second Immortal Beloved novel, Nastasya Crowe is, as she would put it, so over the drama. She fights back against the dark immortals with her own brand of kick-butt magick...but can she fight against true love? In the satisfying finale to the Immortal Beloved trilogy, ex-party-girl immortal Nastasya ends a 450-year-old feud and learns what "eternally yours" really means.
Laced with historical flashbacks and laugh-out-loud dialogue, the Immortal Beloved trilogy is a fascinating and unique take on what it would mean to live forever.

Thanks to the eradication of the parasitic creatures known as the draug, the vampires of Morganville have been freed of their usual constraints. With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town’s human population is determined to hold on to their lives by taking up arms. But college student Claire Danvers isn’t about to take sides, considering she has ties to both the humans and the vampires.
To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville looking for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news… or worse.

Magic for a Price
(Allie Beckstrom series)
by Devon Monk

Allison Beckstrom’s talent for tracking spells has put her up against some of the darkest elements in the world of magic, but she’s never faced anything like this.

Magic itself has been poisoned, and Allie’s undead father may have left the only cure in the hands of a madman. Hunted by the Authority–the secret council that enforces magic’s laws–wanted by the police, and unable to use magic, she’s got to find the cure before the sickness spreads beyond any power to stop it.

But when a Death magic user seeks to destroy the only antidote, Allie and her fellow renegades must stand and fight to defend the innocent and save all magic…

Series finale.

Collateral
by Ellen Hopkins

The gripping story of a woman torn between love for her boyfriend, a dedicated Marine deployed to Afghanistan, and the resentment she has for the war that is tearing their lives apart.

Written in Hopkins’s stunning poetic verse style, Collateral centers on Ashley, an MFA student at San Diego State University. She grew up reading books and never dreamed she would become a military wife. One night she meets a handsome soldier named Cole. He doesn’t match the stereotype of the aggressive military man. He’s passionate and romantic. He even writes poetry. Their relationship evolves into a sexually charged love affair that goes on for five years and survives four deployments. Cole wants Ashley to marry him, but when she meets another man, a professor with similar pursuits and values, she begins to see what life might be like outside the shadow of war.
Collateral captures the hearts of the soldiers on the battlefield and the minds of the friends, family, and lovers they leave behind. Those who remain at home may be far away from the relentless, sand-choked skies of the Middle East and the crosshairs of a sniper rifle, but just the same, all of them will sacrifice a part of themselves for their country and all will eventually ask themselves if the collateral damage caused by war is worth the fight.
