The Torn Wing
(The Faerie Ring series)
By Kiki Hamilton
London 1872 -
A bloody escape, a
deadly threat, a shocking revelation...
As an orphan who stole the
Queen's ring - only to find the ring was a reservoir that held a truce between
the world of Faerie and the British Court - Tiki’s greatest fear suddenly
becomes all too real: the fey have returned to London seeking revenge. As war
escalates in the Otherworld, Queen Victoria’s youngest son, Prince Leopold, is
attacked. In order to protect her family and those she loves, Tiki needs to know
the meaning of an fáinne sí, the birthmark that winds around her wrist.
But will she be brave enough to face the truth?
Excerpts
"The killer straightened and left the
dead king prone on his opulent bed.
London was the perfect hunting ground for someone with his desires and
abilities. He
licked his lips in anticipation."
"Larkin’s poisonous laugh filled the room. “Do
you pity me now?” She spat the words out as though she couldn’t bear the taste
of them on her tongue. “Guttersnipe, you can’t pity what you don’t understand.” "

Kathryn's Review of The Torn Wing:
First I would like to say thanks to Jean Vallesteros for this fabulous tour and many thanks to Kiki Hamilton for such a wonderful book!!
I am going to start this review with a quick recap of The Faerie Ring, book one of The Faerie Ring series. We are introduced to Tiki and the solemn world that she is living in which is late 1800's in England. Forced to be an orphan and living on the streets, she has formed her own little family in which they do whatever they need to do to survive. One eventful evening, Tiki finds herself at the palace and feels her luck has changed when she takes a prized ring out from under the noble's noses. Well her luck has definitely changed, we then find Tiki wrapped up in a war that opens her eyes to truths she never knew and will ultimately have to accept in order for her family and new love interest, Reiker, to survive.
So, The Torn Wing begins exactly where The Faerie Ring ends and we are thrust back in to the world of Tiki. So much has changed for her now that she has an actual home to be in. With Fi, Shamus, Toots, and Claire all being seen about, Tiki is able to explore the secrets regarding her history and family. She is struggling to come to terms in knowing that she could be the one person that can change the war with the faeries and ultimately bring peace once and for all.
I really enjoyed this book. The Torn Wing grabbed my attention quickly and kept me enthralled all the way through. So many events happen keeping you attuned to the tale unfolding before you. New people are introduced that provide exciting drama in Tiki's world, that you are glued to each page dying to know what is going to happen.
I also truly LOVE the magical feel that comes with this book...Kiki has given us a view in to a world that is steeped in history with true historical facts and monuments. I love how it is intertwined with the faery tale that she is weaving to carry us on a journey of extraordinary proportions.
I highly recommend this book along with the series itself...Filled with action, suspense, a budding romance, and of course faeries, this is not a book you want to miss out on!!
